Devil's Tower — the volcanic monolith made famous by Close Encounters of the Third Kind — has a long history of UFO sightings predating the film. Native Kiowa oral tradition describes beings of light who came and went from the tower. Modern witnesses report lights circling the summit at night and craft that approach and then vanish at high altitude. FAA radar has tracked unidentified objects near the formation.
