Poe's childhood home from 1833–1835 is one of Maryland's premier haunted sites. Curators and visitors report a woman in black in the upstairs bedroom, objects that move overnight, and the sound of weeping. The curator in the 1980s reportedly resigned after a month due to repeated unexplained events.
