The 1908 lakeside estate of Chester Congdon is haunted by its history of double murder — Congdon's daughter and her nurse were murdered in 1977. Chester Congdon's ghost is reported in the library, and staff describe cold spots and the sensation of being watched throughout the east wing.

The murder weapon — a candlestick — was never found. University maintenance workers reported finding a similar candlestick in a locked room during a 2003 systems upgrade, but it was not retained as evidence.
