The site of John Brown's 1859 raid is considered one of the most haunted towns in America. John Brown's ghost is frequently reported near the firehouse, a headless figure has been seen on the streets, and the ghost of a woman named Screaming Jenny — who died running ablaze from a riverside camp — is heard along the railroad tracks.
