Iolani Palace — Throne Room
Honolulu
Historic Site High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
America's only royal palace, built in 1882, was the setting for the 1893 overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani by American businessmen backed by U.S. Marines. The queen was imprisoned in her own palace for eight months. Staff and volunteers at the restored palace report a powerful female presence in the Queen's bedroom and the sound of Hawaiian chanting from the throne room when no one is there. A male figure in royal Hawaiian regalia — interpreted as King Kalakaua — is seen on the grand staircase. Security cameras have captured moving lights in the palace that appear during late-night monitoring sessions.
