Mysterious Phenomenon High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Known as the 'Haunted Swamp,' Manchac is associated with Julia Brown — a Voodoo priestess who died in 1915 on the same day as a hurricane that killed nearly the entire town of Frenier and destroyed three towns. She is said to have predicted it while singing 'One day I'm gonna die and take you all with me.' The swamp remains sparsely populated.

A 1915 Coast Survey map created two weeks before the storm shows the settlement of Frenier at its documented population — the same map was amended post-storm with the notation 'site evacuated by act of God,' using language that appears in no other Coast Survey document of the era.
