Michigan's Dogman — Manistee National Forest

Manistee

Cryptid Moderate Activity

History & Paranormal Activity

Michigan's most famous cryptid is the Dogman — a seven-foot creature with a dog's head on a man's body, first reported in 1887 by lumberjacks in Wexford County. The creature was popularized by radio personality Steve Cook's 1987 April Fool's song, but Cook was stunned when thousands of listeners called in with genuine prior sightings they had never reported publicly. The Manistee National Forest and the areas around Luther, Hersey, and the Little Manistee River remain the core of Dogman sighting territory. Reports cluster every seven years in years ending in 7.
