Moundsville State Penitentiary
Moundsville
Haunted Building Extreme Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Built in 1866 next to an ancient Adena burial mound, this prison was declared 'cruel and unusual' by the state supreme court. Ninety-four men were executed here — 9 by hanging, 85 in the electric chair. Visitors report a shadow man in the North Wagon Gate, a demon-like entity known as 'the Shadow' in the lower tunnels, and hundreds of documented EVPs.

🔒 Classified Field Investigation Notes
The prison was deliberately built adjacent to the burial mound against the explicit objection of Adena descendant communities — documents show the location was chosen specifically because the land was cheapest due to locals refusing to build on it.
