The 'Red Dwarf' or 'Demon of the Strait' — a small, grotesque creature whose appearances foretell disaster for Detroit. The legend traces to 1701 when city founder Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac reportedly encountered and attacked it, suffering misfortune afterward. Sighted before major disasters including the 1805 fire and 1967 riots. Since 2010, the annual Marche du Nain Rouge parade banishes the creature from the city.
