Phoenix Lights Observation Area

On March 13, 1997, thousands of Arizona residents — including then-Governor Fife Symington — witnessed a massive V-shaped formation of lights moving silently over Phoenix and Tucson. The object, estimated at one mile wide, moved slowly at low altitude with no sound for over three hours. The Air Force attributed it to flares dropped during a training exercise, an explanation witnesses universally reject — the original formation of lights behaved entirely differently from the later flare drop. It remains the most-witnessed mass UFO event in American history.
