Point Sur Lighthouse

The 1889 lighthouse perched on a volcanic rock formation 361 feet above the Pacific has claimed hundreds of shipwrecks. The keeper's quarters are associated with a woman who waits for a sailor who drowned on the rocks below, and the light room produces shadow figures that move against the beam rotation. The isolation of the site — accessible only by guided tour — has made independent investigation rare.
