Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse
Port Austin (Thumb)
Haunted Lighthouse High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Near the tip of Michigan's Thumb. First keeper Peter Shook drowned in 1849 sailing to Port Huron. A mysterious figure pulls back curtains on the second story of the empty lighthouse — a story dating to the 1930s. Offshore, sailors report seeing a white lifeboat with eight men rowing out to the lake — in April 1880, six men drowned when their surfboat overturned. The SE Michigan Paranormal Society recorded furniture moving, scraping, thuds, and giggling in the empty house.
