Site of the Lost Colony of 1587 — 115 settlers vanished without a trace, leaving only the word 'CROATOAN' carved into a post. The mystery has never been solved. Visitors to the site report voices speaking Elizabethan English, apparitions in period dress, and a persistent feeling of displacement, as if the location exists slightly outside of time.
