Shades of Death Road

This rural Warren County road earned its grim name from a cluster of violent murders, fatal animal attacks by wildcats, and a malaria epidemic in the 1800s. A series of photographs taken near the road's namesake lake showed dozens of ghostly faces peering from the fog — the photos were analyzed by multiple experts who found no evidence of manipulation. Locals report ghost lights drifting over the adjacent swamp and an oppressive feeling of being watched throughout the road's 7-mile length.
