The McPike Mansion

This 1869 Italianate mansion on Alton's Hunterstown Road — in what some call America's most haunted city — sits in ruins now but has been one of the most extensively investigated paranormal sites in the Midwest for decades. The ghost of Sarah Wells, the mansion's original caretaker, is the most frequently encountered spirit — a full-body apparition that appears in the east-facing windows. The wine cellar beneath the mansion is considered so active that Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and dozens of independent teams have all documented Class-A EVPs within minutes of setting up equipment there.
