The Menger Hotel
San Antonio
Haunted Building High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Built in 1859 next to the Alamo, the Menger Hotel has accumulated over 165 years of history and more than 30 documented ghosts. Teddy Roosevelt recruited Rough Riders in the hotel bar in 1898, and his spirit is reported there still — glasses clink on their own, and patrons report a large man in period dress who orders a drink and vanishes. Captain Richard King, founder of the King Ranch, died in Room 310 and is seen peering from its window. A chambermaid murdered in the hotel in 1875 is reported throughout the Victorian wing.
