The Stanley Hotel
Estes Park
Haunted Building Extreme Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Stephen King's inspiration for The Shining — the 1909 Stanley Hotel is one of America's most investigated haunted buildings. Room 217 (where King stayed) is haunted by a housekeeper who was injured in a gas explosion, and the children's playroom in the attic produces the most disturbing activity. The ballroom grand piano plays by itself, and children are heard running the hallways. Ghost-hunting equipment consistently produces readings throughout the property.
